Next month the Minnesota House Transportation Committee will meet in Mankato for a public hearing about the bill introduced last week to finish the expansion of Highway 14.

The bipartisan bill was introduced by GOP Senator Gary Dahms of Redwood Falls and DFL Representative Jeff Brand of St. Peter.

DFL Representative Jack Considine of Mankato said local officials have been pushing for the funding for more than two decades and it would provide a better corridor for commerce between Rochester and New Ulm. Brand added that there are also significant safety concerns on that stretch of highway.

The hearing is scheduled for March but a firm date, time, and location have not yet been announced.
