A bill sponsored by North Mankato State Senator Nick Frentz, which authorizes “granny cams” in Minnesota nursing homes and assisted living facilities is headed for a Senate floor vote after passing out of a key Senate committee at the State Capitol.

Toby Pearson with Care Providers of Minnesota supports electronic monitoring of vulnerable patients because, “To put it simply, if folks know there are going to be cameras recording what you do, you’re less likely to do something bad.”

The bill is part of a push at the State Capitol for better elder care in the state. Protection of vulnerable adults has been a top priority of state lawmakers since last session after multiple reports of abuse statewide.
