A University of Minnesota professor accused of assaulting his girlfriend in their apartment has reached a plea agreement with prosecutors.
Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said Thursday that 47-year-old Aaron Doering pleaded guilty to domestic assault by strangulation.
As part of the plea deal, Doering will be sentenced to 365 days in the workhouse. He will not have to serve the last 185 days if he successfully serves his two-year probation. Doering must complete treatment for alcohol addiction and for mental health.
The victim told police that Doering had dragged her around by the hair and slapped, hit and choked her. Doering’s plea says he does not remember the details of the night because he was drinking heavily, but acknowledges that his girlfriend’s account of the incident is true.
