Fashion designer GLORIA VANDERBILT died yesterday after a battle with stomach cancer. She was 95.
Her son ANDERSON COOPER issued a statement saying she was, quote, “an extraordinary woman who loved life and lived it on her own terms.”
“She was a painter, a writer, and designer but also a remarkable mother, wife, and friend. She was 95 years old, but ask anyone close to her, and they’d tell you: She was the youngest person they knew, the coolest and most modern.”
Gloria helped pioneer the designer jeans craze in the ’70s with her Gloria Vanderbilt Jeans. She also branched out into other clothing, perfume, and home goods.
(Anderson also narrated a eulogy for his mother. You can watch it here. At 5:28 there’s a great clip of Anderson and Gloria giggling together in the hospital.)
