NORTH MANKATO, Minn., February 13, 2020 – More than 100 high school seniors today participated in South Central College’s 5th Annual National Technical Letter of Intent Signing Day at the college’s North Mankato Campus. The students signed letters of intent indicating they plan to pursue technical or professional program at South Central College in fall 2020.

The event mirrors the NCAA’s National Signing Day for athletes who commit to play sports in college, but instead of athletes, Technical Signing Day recognizes students who are entering a technical field. The annual nationwide event established by National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3) is designed to honor students who are pursuing a college program in a technical career or professional program and to celebrate the value of the work in these fields. In signing a letter of intent, students are guaranteed a spot in their chosen program of study in the fall.

“The high school seniors signing Letters of Intent today know that we have a place reserved for them this fall in a program that will prepare them to be workplace ready in a relatively short period of time,” said SCC President Dr. Annette Parker. “In addition to the benefits the students receive, this type of education grows a highly skilled workforce, builds strong families and sustains communities.”

In addition, participants at today’s event received combined scholarships totaling $80,000 from the South Central College North Mankato Campus Foundation and the Minnesota State Workforce Development Scholarship program. More information on these scholarships and the recipients are below.
