Some senate republicans raised concerns over Governor Walz approving a raise for state workers earlier this week. State representative Jeff Brand of St.Peter says the state needs to support those on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We’re talking about those on the front lines and for us to say you can’t get a raise seems to be a little bit disingenuous and unfair,” said Brand.

Senate Republicans said it wasn’t prudent to offer raises with 650,000 Minnesotans out of work. The bill that passed the Senate would have reinstated the raises if the financial projections were prudent in November.
