Senator Amy Klobuchar says the Department of Homeland Security will designate Ukrainians for Temporary Protected Status (TPS), prompted by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Klobuchar was part of a bipartisan group calling on the Biden administration to extend T-P-S protections to Ukrainian nationals living in the U-S.  She says it’s the right thing to do, “to ensure Ukrainians are not forced to return home as Putin attacks their country. We must stand with the people of Ukraine.”  Temporary Protected Status provides relief from deportation and access to a work permit for foreign nationals who can’t safely return to their home country because of natural disasters, armed conflicts, or other extraordinary situations.
