“Low value assigned to caregiving” is the first bullet-point in a report from Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison’s advisory task force on women’s economic security, released on this International Women’s Day. Ellison says:
“I don’t know where these people… come from who say, oh yeah, it’s everybody’s job to care for the next generation, our children and grandchildren — but then you don’t want to reward the people properly who actually do it.”
The report also points to a “pervasive power imbalance” in the workplace, the economy as a whole, and in the policy-making arena… and concludes that “women’s safety is not prioritized.” There are 115 recommendations in the report. For details, go to the Minnesota Attorney General’s website.
