SCC Mental Health Awareness Walk
May 1 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm| Free
The South Central College (SCC) North Mankato Campus Student Senate is organizing a community event on Wednesday, May 1 from 3:30 – 5 p.m. to build awareness of mental health and help end the stigma associated with mental health conditions.
The event is free with refreshments served and community members are encouraged to participate.
According to National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), “approximately one in five adults in the U.S. – 43.8 million, or 18.5% – experience mental illness in a given year” and “75% of all mental health conditions start by age 24.”
Walk participants will meet at 3:30 p.m. by Door 1 on South Central College’s North Mankato Campus (1920 Lee Boulevard) and walk around the campus filling the sidewalks with chalk messages that increase awareness and convey support to individuals with mental health concerns.
The Student Senate is also partnering with SCC’s Student Nursing Association to have tables hosted by community organizations sharing information on the mental health services they offer. At 4:30 p.m. there will also be a panel of students and community members who have faced mental health issues. For more information and to sign up for the walk, please visit www.southcentral.edu/walk.
