SnowKato Days is a 10-day winter festival packed with festivities featuring activities for all ages and interests. This new annual event is scheduled for January 17-26 and is a call to action for those who are up for bold, crazy winter fun in January. Current planned activities include a medallion hunt, promotional buttons, daily prizes, learn to curl, ski and ice skate, a snow sculpture contest, sled bowling, hockey and more. The community is encouraged to participate with their own events.

“Since I began in my role with Visit Mankato more than 12 years ago, I have heard several requests from the community asking for a traditional winter festival,” said Visit Mankato President, Anna Thill. She continues by saying, “The Visit Mankato board has made this initiative a priority over the past year as a response to this, growing desire and the need to drive more traffic to businesses this time of year” A task force comprised of Visit Mankato, City Center Partnership and the Sports Commission as well as several community members have helped shape the event so far.

“One of the featured events is the Jack Frost Frolic, a light-hearted team challenge put on by the Mankato Sports Commission that includes biking, snowshoeing, and other fun winter challenges,” noted Thill. “However, the primary role of Visit Mankato in SnowKato Days is to promote the events and winter activities for our partners in the Greater Mankato business community.”

Visit Mankato is working closely with Mount Kato, Anthony Ford Pond Hockey, Minnesota State University, Mankato Mavericks, Business on Belgrade and more who are putting on their own events that fit well into the theme of SnowKato Days.

SnowKato Days will allow community organizations and businesses to become involved in the following ways:

Host an Event
Businesses and organizations are encouraged to participate with their own festive winter activity and/or promotion between January 17-26, 2020. If they submit details to Visit Mankato by Monday, October 14 they will be included in the 2020 SnowKato Days promotions. The more robust the list of activities and events, the more reason people will have to visit.

Provide a Prize, Coupon, Discounts for the Button Program
Area businesses have an opportunity to donate prizes or offer a coupon or discount for a commemorative button that will be available for residents and tourists to purchase online or at select businesses. Those who purchase the commemorative button will have exclusive access to those incentives. A portion of those proceeds will go towards funds allocated to new elements in our community that enhance visitor experiences and future SnowKato Days events.

Become a Sponsor
Sponsorship opportunities are also available for the Greater Mankato area businesses at various investment levels. More information about sponsorship opportunities can be found online. Business who have an interest in becoming a sponsor should contact Visit Mankato by October 7.
